Racket Material - Aluminum or Graphite?

Racket Material - Aluminum or Graphite?

You may have already wondered why there are aluminum and graphite rackets, today we are going to show you the differences between them and their advantages and disadvantages.

But how can we distinguish them?

Graphite rackets are made as a single piece, from the handle to the head.

The aluminum rackets are divided into two pieces of molded aluminum.

And the differences?

1. Finishing:

  • Aluminum:
    • Smooth and shiny finish, basic painting;
    • Surface with structural and less sophisticated shapes;
    • Central bridge separated from the racket frame;
    • Temperature to the touch is cold.
  • Graphite:
    • More sophisticated appearance;
    • May contain visible carbon fiber details, complex textures and patterns;
    • Touch temperature is room temperature.

2. Thickness and weight:

  • Aluminum:
    • Slightly thicker structure, necessary to add strength and rigidity to the aluminum;
    • They may feel lighter when held.
  • Graphite:
    • Thinner and more aerodynamic structure, thanks to the greater resistance of the material;
    • More balanced weight despite being potentially heavier.

3. Design
:

  • Aluminum:
    • Simpler design, with basic patterns and colors and directly printed brands;
    • In some cases there is a lack of plastic protection at the top of the racket.
  • Graphite:
    • Advanced design, with complex graphics, detailed and varied logos;
    • Sophisticated finish with multiple layers of paint.

Aluminum:

  • Disadvantage:
    • Rackets with a lot of vibrations;
    • Very unstable materials that make it difficult to direct the ball accurately.

  • Advantage:
      • Low cost;
      • When the technique with the aluminum racket is already mastered, in the transition to a graphite racket, there is an improvement in performance and consequently an increase in motivation.

    Graphite:

    • Disadvantage:
      • When there is a very strong impact, the racket breaks, unlike the aluminum racket that bends;
    • Advantage:
      • Racket with few vibrations;
      • Better hitting sensation;
      • Better control and stability in the direction of the ball;
      • Models with controlled weights and technical characteristics.
